Maintenance
There are many ways to clean granite
countertops and keep them looking
new. Just avoid using harsh cleaning
products, as they can damage the sealant and dull the finish. Soft dish soap and water is all you
need. Properly rinsed, it should retain
it’s shine, but over time, it is recommended to use a granite cleaner.
Make sure a soft cloth or sponge is used in the cleaning process, any abrasive material can scratch the granite.
A sealer is also recommended at least once a year (depending on the use of your countertop).
A water spill test can be done, test it to be sure that it is adequately sealed, spill a little water on you countertop and leave it set. After 30 minutes, wipe it up. If the water leaves your counter darkened, the granite is not sufficiently sealed.
Resealing Granite Countertops
Before you reseal your granite countertops, check with the manufacturer Unique Stone Granite & Marble, to be sure it is necessary. Most granite counters do need to be re-sealed on an annual basis, but not all of them require this.
However, for those that do require sealing to retain the color and clarity of the granite counter top, it is necessary to reseal the counter every six months to two years. How much you use your kitchen will play a part in how often it needs to be re-sealed. When you do re-seal, it is preferable to use the same sealant from it original application.
