Marble
Marble is a non-foliated metamorphic rock that is produced from the metamorphism of limestone. It is composed primarily of calcium carbonate.
Marble is a metamorphic rock resulting from regional or at time contact metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks, either limestone or dolostone. This metamorphic process causes a complete re-crystallization of the original rock into an interlocking mosaic of calcite or dolomite crystals. The temperatures and pressures necessary to form marble usually destroy any fossils and sedimentary textures present in the original rock.
There are thee (3) kinds of marble, named primarily after the locations of their quarries, which are
Carrara (Italy)
Pentelicus (Greece)
Proconnesus (Turkey)
The most common of marbles are from Italy, this preference has to do with the softness and relative isotrophy and homogeneity, and a relative resistance to shattering.
It’s general use are mainly in bathrooms, vanities, showers and floors. Because of it high maintenance, and preventions, it is not recommended in kitchens or other high volume areas.
It’s beauty differs from other stones, but is easily scratched and stained.
